MINES AUCTION

The new trend in Iron ore mining in India after auction ,with special reference to Odisha state. Time will stay it is good or bad. 19 No of working iron and manganese mines expiring on 31st March 2020 are being auctioned in Odisha. The big players like JSW,Arcelor Mittal etc and their allies are bidding the mines and already bagged 5 mines with more than 100% bid value. It means if the sales price of iron ore is 2000 rupees per ton, the lessee will have to pay the state govt another 2000 rupees + royalty of 15% on 2000 + GST. On the primacies it appears to be a loss project. The steel makers will make profit on the steel and will maintain the mines. The transport will be through pipeline, whose cost will be Rs.250/- per ton. Another equation may be thought of . The big players will lower the selling cost of ore to Rs. 1000/- so that the IBM published sales price will automatically come down to Rs1000/-. Including transport at Paradip port the FOB price for 63% Fe fines will come between 40 to 42 USD. The export will become very much feasible with a high profit.
The big players may take over the small and sick sponge units and produce sponge and pellets, which will be ultimately used in their steel plants. Huge bank loans to the tune of thousands of crores may be availed by the bidders.
The Mayurbhanj sector Magnetite ore contains high amount of Titanium and Vanadium. It also require less amount coal for metallisation. The quality of steel is also good in comparison to the Hematite ore of Sundargad and Keonjhar sector.
The pipeline network will require two years. If everything will move as per the timeline and budget and above all the support of Government and the local people, the investment by the big players will fetch profit after 5 years. Any failure will be a big disaster for the big companies as well as the banks. The mines will be surrendered by the lessee. The royalty received by the state government may fall.
The ultimate losers will be the transporters/truck owners. Also the local unemployment will increase, as the mines will operate mechanically. The local boys and girls have not been trained much for the choice of miners. Consumption of water will be more which will adversely affect the groundwater table and level. The agro sector will face devastation. The temperature and humidity will increase when the raising capacity will be increased by the big players.
The local people and the state government are to think and act. Because the big players are not the son of the soil and will never bother for any sort of disasters.
